Abuja — Nigeria’s President has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, replacing the finance minister and making changes to the Federal Executive Council, the government said on Tuesday.
According to a statement from Secretary to the Government of the Federation , Finance Minister Wale Edun has been directed to step down and hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Oyedele previously served as Minister of State for Finance.
In a related move, the president nominated Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development, subject to confirmation by the National Assembly. The outgoing minister, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has been asked to hand over to the minister of state pending the confirmation and swearing-in of his successor.
The presidency said all handover processes are to be completed by April 23.
Akume said the reshuffle is aimed at strengthening policy coordination and improving economic management in line with the administration’s agenda.
Tinubu exercised his powers under the constitution to effect the changes and thanked the outgoing ministers for their service, the statement added.
