New Political Alignment: Obi, Kwankwaso Enter NDC Camp

Abuja, Nigeria

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, has formally welcomed former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Musa Kwankwaso into the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the party as stable, united, and free from internal disputes.

Speaking on Sunday during a reception held at his residence, Dickson said the NDC, despite being a relatively new political platform, had quickly built a reputation for unity and growth.

He emphasised that the party stands out in Nigeria’s political space because it has no factions or ongoing court cases — issues that have historically affected many political parties in the country.

According to him, party members across Nigeria had shown strong belief in the NDC’s vision within just a few months of its formation.

“On behalf of the leaders of our party and the teeming members from across the country who have, in the last five months, defied all odds and placed their trust in this vision, I welcome you all to the NDC,” Dickson said.

The senator described the party as “Nigeria’s fastest-growing” and “most stable,” adding that it is prepared to compete strongly despite its young age.

“Though young, we are ready to box above our weight. This is a party with no faction and no litigation whatsoever,” he stated.

Dickson also praised Obi and Kwankwaso, describing both leaders as highly qualified individuals. He noted that further details regarding their formal integration into the party would be announced at the appropriate time.

On his part, Peter Obi called on the Federal Government to avoid interfering in opposition politics. He warned against transferring political crises into the NDC and urged leaders to uphold democratic values.

Obi appealed for a political environment that allows parties to operate freely without external pressure or disruption.

Meanwhile, Musa Kwankwaso encouraged Nigerians to join the NDC, revealing that his supporters had already begun registering with the party.

The emergence of new political alliances and movements has continued to shape Nigeria’s opposition landscape, with parties often dealing with internal divisions and legal disputes.

Dickson’s remarks position the NDC as an alternative platform seeking to avoid those long-standing challenges.

With the entry of prominent political figures like Obi and Kwankwaso, the NDC appears set to expand its reach ahead of future political contests, as party leaders continue to emphasise unity and internal stability.
