2027 Politics Intensifies in Abuja as PDP Opens Presidential Results Centre

The race for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election is already getting serious as the opposition People’s Democratic Party has opened its presidential primary collation centre in Abuja.

Party officials confirmed on Tuesday that the centre is now fully ready to receive and count results from delegates taking part in the party’s presidential convention.

The collation centre is where votes from different parts of the country will be brought together, checked, confirmed, and added up before the PDP officially announces who will fly the party’s flag for the 2027 presidential election.

As activities continue in Abuja, tension and political calculations are increasing among party leaders, supporters, and presidential hopefuls struggling to secure the PDP ticket.

One of the early politicians seen at the collation centre was Senator Sandy Onor, who is among those contesting for the party’s presidential ticket.

Political observers say many people are watching the PDP closely because the outcome of the primary election could determine how strong the opposition will be against the ruling party in 2027.

Although party officials promised that the process would be transparent and peaceful, many Nigerians believe the contest is too important for anyone to take lightly.

Why the PDP Primary Is Important

The PDP remains one of Nigeria’s biggest political parties despite losing power at the federal level in 2015.

The party ruled Nigeria for 16 straight years after the return to democracy in 1999 and produced former presidents like Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan.

But in 2015, the All Progressives Congress defeated the PDP in a historic election victory that pushed the party into opposition.

Since then, the PDP has been trying to rebuild itself, settle internal disagreements, and convince Nigerians that it can return to power.

Analysts say whoever emerges as the PDP presidential candidate may play a major role in shaping alliances and coalition talks ahead of 2027.

Sowore Emerges AAC Presidential Candidate

In another political development also taking place in Abuja, activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress for the 2027 election.

Sowore secured the party ticket during the AAC presidential convention held in the Federal Capital Territory.

The former presidential candidate is widely known for speaking against corruption, bad governance, and injustice, especially among Nigerian youths.

Over the years, the AAC has tried to present itself as an alternative to Nigeria’s major political parties, although the party still faces challenges in gaining wider national support.

Political Activities Already Gathering Momentum

Even though the 2027 general election is still some time away, political activities are already gathering speed across the country.

Different political parties are now holding meetings, building alliances, and making strategic moves ahead of the official campaign season.

With the PDP preparing to announce its presidential candidate and smaller parties like the AAC already unveiling theirs, many Nigerians expect more political drama, negotiations, and intense competition in the coming months.

For now, attention remains focused on Abuja, where PDP officials continue the sensitive job of counting and verifying results that will decide who eventually carries the party’s hopes into the battle for Aso Rock in 2027.
