The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to ₦815 per litre at its retail outlets. The adjustment, confirmed on Monday, January 5, 2026, marks a ₦20 drop from the previous price of ₦835 per litre.
Journalists observed the new price at NNPCL stations in Abuja, including Wuse Zones 4 and 6, along the Keffi–Abuja Road, and the Kubwa Expressway. A station attendant, who requested anonymity, said the reduction took effect on Sunday evening.
Despite the decrease, NNPCL’s petrol remains ₦79 higher than fuel sold at MRS stations supplied by the Dangote Refinery, which currently retail at ₦739 per litre nationwide. Dangote’s gantry price, set at ₦699 per litre, has intensified competition in the downstream oil sector.
This is the second recent price reduction by NNPCL, following an ₦80 cut to ₦835 per litre on December 19, 2025. Analysts say the adjustments reflect increased domestic refining capacity and market competition among fuel marketers, although TMN has not independently verified these assessments.
Consumers are advised to monitor petrol stations nationwide for further changes, as NNPCL and other marketers continue adjusting prices in line with market dynamics.
