Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has removed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Olanike Adeyemo, and appointed Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde as her replacement.
The decision was announced on Sunday, January 5, 2026, in Ibadan, according to an official statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
Alongside the change in the SSG position, Governor Makinde approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting several ministries and advisory roles. Temilolu Seun Ashamu was redeployed from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. Ademola Aderinto, formerly Senior Special Assistant on Public Works, was named commissioner-designate and is expected to appear before the Oyo State House of Assembly for screening.
Other appointments announced include Abiodun Adedoja as Special Adviser on Energy Security and Kolawole Elijah Akanmu as Senior Special Assistant on Budget and Economic Planning.
Confirming the development, Olanrewaju stated that the governor approved “the appointment of Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde as the new Secretary to the State Government.” No official reason was provided for the removal of the former SSG.
The office of the Secretary to the State Government is responsible for coordinating the activities of the state executive council and implementing key policy decisions of the administration.
Cabinet reshuffles are generally viewed as routine administrative adjustments within state governments. Further updates are expected from the Oyo State Government.
