Information, Interior Ministers Move to Strengthen Communication on Tinubu’s Reforms

Abuja — Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris has met with the Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in Abuja to align government communication on the reforms being implemented under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior, focused on strengthening coordinated messaging around the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and ensuring that government policies are clearly communicated to the public.

Focus on Reforms and Achievements

During the discussions, the ministers highlighted key reforms within the interior ministry, including efforts to modernize immigration services and improve passport processing.

One of the major achievements cited was the clearance of a passport backlog of over 204,000 applications, which had accumulated prior to the current administration.

Officials also pointed to the rollout of contactless passport renewal services for Nigerians abroad, initially launched in Canada and later expanded to other regions, as part of broader digital reforms within the immigration system.

Combating Misinformation

The ministers emphasized the need for proactive communication to counter misinformation and improve public understanding of government initiatives, particularly at a time when Nigeria faces complex security and governance challenges.

Information Minister Idris said his ministry would continue to engage agencies and stakeholders to ensure accurate dissemination of policies and reforms.

Strengthening Inter-Ministerial Collaboration

Observers say the engagement reflects the administration’s effort to improve coordination among ministries responsible for security, immigration, and public information.

The meeting also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional communication and building public trust as reforms in governance, border security, and migration management continue.
