The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Ekiti State, following a temporary suspension for statutory review of the voters’ register.
The exercise resumed on Thursday, January 15, 2026, after INEC suspended registration on December 10, 2025, to allow for the display of the provisional voters’ register for claims and objections. During the suspension period, registrants were permitted to verify their details and request corrections, including errors in names and personal information.
Speaking to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ekiti State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, called on political stakeholders, community leaders, and civil society groups to mobilise eligible residents who missed earlier registration opportunities. She particularly encouraged youths who have recently attained the age of 18 to take advantage of the exercise.
Dr. Omoseyindemi warned against multiple registrations, stressing that such actions constitute an electoral offence and would attract sanctions in accordance with the law.
INEC disclosed that during the first phase of the ongoing CVR exercise, 9,891,801 Nigerians initiated online pre-registration nationwide, but only 2,572,054 successfully completed the process either online or through physical registration.
According to INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, Osun State recorded the highest number of completed registrations with 200,251, followed by Kano, Imo, and Sokoto States. Ekiti State recorded 14,691 completed registrations, placing it among the states with the lowest turnout nationwide.
Eta-Messi confirmed that the display of the preliminary voters’ register took place from December 15 to 21, 2025, in compliance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022.
INEC also announced that the CVR exercise remains suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral activities, adding that new resumption dates for those areas will be communicated in due course.
The Commission urged eligible Nigerians to utilise the ongoing CVR window to ensure their inclusion in the national voters’ register ahead of future elections.
