Travellers using Nigeria’s two busiest international airports can now enjoy free high-speed internet, following the launch of complimentary Wi-Fi services at Lagos and Abuja terminals.
The initiative was unveiled by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in collaboration with MTN Nigeria at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
For years, poor or inconsistent internet access has been a common complaint among passengers. The new rollout is expected to change that narrative, allowing travellers to browse, stream, work, coordinate rides, and monitor flights without relying solely on mobile data.
FAAN officials say the move is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade airport facilities and improve passenger experience in line with international standards. The partnership model also reflects a growing reliance on private sector collaboration to fast-track infrastructure improvements without stretching public finances.
Industry observers see the development as a necessary step in repositioning Nigeria’s airports as competitive regional hubs, especially at a time when digital connectivity has become a basic expectation for global travellers.
Authorities say the free Wi-Fi service will be expanded to other terminals and airports nationwide in phases.
