Board of Peace not replacement for united Nations- Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signaled that his proposed “Board of Peace” would not seek to dismantle the United Nations, saying “you’ve got to let the U.N. continue” when asked whether the new body could replace the global institution.

Trump has pitched the “Board of Peace” as a streamlined forum for major powers to address conflicts and diplomatic flashpoints, arguing that the U.N. has become slow, bureaucratic, and limited by veto politics. His latest comments suggest coexistence rather than substitution, following speculation that the initiative was intended as an alternative architecture for global governance.

Diplomats noted that replacing the United Nations would be legally and politically prohibitive, given its charter authority, peacekeeping operations, humanitarian coordination, and near-universal membership. Analysts say the more realistic scenario would be parallel cooperation or issue-specific negotiations outside the General Assembly and Security Council.

The idea of a “Board of Peace” fits into broader debates over institutional fragmentation in global diplomacy, where major powers increasingly rely on smaller coalitions or informal groupings to bypass gridlock in universal bodies.

Trump did not provide details on membership, mandate, or enforcement mechanisms for the proposed board, leaving questions about its purpose and viability. The United Nations has not publicly commented on the proposal.
