Armed robbers on Monday carried out a brazen daylight attack on an armored cash-in-transit vehicle on a highway in southern Italy, using explosives, gunfire and burning vehicles to block traffic and execute the robbery.
According to reports, the attackers ambushed the cash truck in a highly coordinated operation, detonating explosives to disable the vehicle before opening fire. Several vehicles were set ablaze, forcing motorists to abandon their cars as the highway descended into chaos.
The incident unfolded in full view of the public, disrupting traffic for hours and prompting a large-scale response from Italian security forces. Authorities sealed off the area while emergency services worked to restore order and clear the roadway.
Italian police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and are reviewing surveillance footage. No official statement has yet been released on arrests, injuries, or the amount of cash taken.
The attack has raised fresh concerns about organized criminal activity and highway security in parts of southern Italy.
