After Fresh Scare, Bauchi Unleashes Heavy Security Presence in Alkaleri

Bauchi State Police Command has sent a large number of officers and heavy weapons to Gwana, Digare, and Kafin Duguri in Alkaleri Local Government Area to tackle rising banditry and keep the peace.

The deployment follows a spike in security threats in these border communities, Police Public Relations Officer Nafiu Habib said during a press briefing on Thursday. Joint teams from police, military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other agencies carried out the operation, with support from the Bauchi State Government.

Habib said the move came after a full security review. “In recent days, there has been a resurgence of security concerns in Gwana, Digare, and Kafin Duguri,” he told reporters. “The Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has initiated a massive deployment of joint security personnel to the affected communities with a view to suppressing the activities of these criminal elements.”

These areas have long battled insecurity from bandits sneaking in from nearby states, Habib noted. He reassured people in Mansur town, who fled their homes fearing attacks, that their area remains safe. “Despite recent incidents in neighbouring Gwana District, Mansur town remains unaffected, and there is no cause for alarm,” he said.

The police confirmed heavy deployments and better arms are now in place to stop any lawlessness. “Operatives are working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability in the affected areas,” Habib added.

Bauchi Police Command vowed no hiding place for bandits in Alkaleri. Commissioner of Police Sani Omolori Aliyu stressed the need for community help, urging residents to report suspicious faces, movements, or items quickly. He promised all tips would stay confidential.

Habib encouraged locals to resume daily work without fear, thanks to the stepped-up security. Police said operations will continue to restore lasting calm.
