ENUGU SENATOR KELVIN CHUKWU CAUGHT ON VIDEO ASSAULTING CONSTITUENT AT FOOTBALL EVENT

Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East, was caught on video physically assaulting a constituent during a football tournament on Saturday, January 3, 2026. The competition, organized by the senator, began in December 2025 in Amurri.

Footage obtained by SaharaReporters shows the altercation occurring in the presence of the senator’s security personnel. In the video, Senator Chukwu appears angry, slaps the constituent, and chases him off the pitch. A security officer attached to the senator was also seen physically confronting the same individual. Following the incident, the constituent was reportedly arrested and detained.

No official statement has been issued by Senator Chukwu or his office at the time of reporting.

Senator Chukwu, who recently switched from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC), originally won the Labour Party’s senatorial ticket in 2023 following the assassination of his elder brother, Oyibo Chukwu. In the 2023 elections, he polled 69,136 votes to win the Enugu East Senate seat, defeating former governor Chimaroke Nnamani, who received 48,701 votes.

A witness told SaharaReporters that the football tournament was organised for political purposes ahead of upcoming elections and claimed that the senator has historically not contributed significantly to the community. TMN has not independently verified these claims.

At the time of reporting, neither Enugu State authorities nor the Nigerian Senate had commented on the incident. Further updates are expected from local law enforcement or the senator’s office.
